Over 61% of the area of the community is occupied by farms and the forests cover 26% of the area. The individual farms cover about 73 % of the agricultural area in the community. In this group the majority of the farms are no larger than 5 ha - and they make for 48 %. The average individual farm in 1996 was 10,8 ha. In the plant production the majority are the following - grain, sugarbeets, potatoes; in animals - cattle breeding. The high position of the community in agricultural production, especially the cattle is largely due to the achievements of the nationwide known centre in Osowa Sien - the Stock Breeding ltd company. 4,800 inhabitants with good professional preparation (not counting individual farmers and firms employing up to 5 persons) work in the community. The private sector plays a dominant part in the economy of the community and it can be seen not only in the numbers of goods and services sold but also in the number of the employees. There has been a dramatic growth of the number of private companies, and especially those belonging to private, individual owners. At present out of 1570 registered companies over 97% are privately owned. The most strongly are represented the trading companies and repairing companies - 37 % of companies, 23 % - production. Industry is represented mainly by food industry -(sugar production, dairy production, meat processing), metal and machinery (production of communal facilities, renovation of machine tools), furniture and clothing firms. Supporing the development of the local businesses and starting the new investments is one of the most important tasks in the further development of the community and the town.
