Culture, Education The Wschowa Land has over 850 years of cultural life to be seen in the material and spiritual achievements. People living and working here over the past centuries have made their names not only in the history of the region but the country as well. Among the most prominent of them were; the Protestant clergyman and poet Waleriusz Herberger known as a Little Luther - 1562-1627, a cronicle writer Caspar Hoffman -1548 - 1627, a historian Samuel Lauterbach - 1662- 1727. It was in Wschowa that the famous Nicollo Bacarelli lived. He started the first dying factory in Poland. In the Wschowa mint Andrzej Tymff "produced" the coins called "tymfs". And it was so good, of such a good value that the saying "good deed is worth a tymf". It was in Wschowa that the first book on physics in Polish was written. The Wschowa Musem The Wschowa Musem has been working for the last 30 years. It has been gathering, collecting, protecing and publicizing relics and history of the old Wschowa region. The museum houses a rich collection of craft art. - mainly china of the Sas period and the funeral portraits coming from the southern- western Wielkopolska. All the citizens can make use of the rich collections and exhibits. All the cultural centers propagate the rich folk culture of the region. There are several folk groups - such as "Dzierzacy" from Siedlnica and a choir "Polonez" from Wschowa. In the Cultural Hall of Wschowa a numerous conterts take place. It is here that all the talented young people can develop their talents and interests. The Hall organizes a number of permanent meetings and events - "Przeglad Dorobku Kulturalnego Szkol i Przedszkoli", "Dni Wschowy", "Wschowskie Lato Pod Ratuszem". The cultural offer of our community is not full without the public library and its reading room. It has 65.000 of volumes - among them many interesting publications on the region. Wschowa Cultural Centre The town and community of Wschowa has started a partnership with Oirschot in the Netherlands and has just taken up talks with Skalat in Ukraine - close to Tarnopol, The four years of contacts with Oirschot have resulted in numerous contacts between the young people on the both sides, there have also been exchange programmes between the other groups.
